HASG/HfL Hertfordshire Governors’ Annual Conference Postponed
The Executive Committee of the Hertfordshire Association of School Governors (HASG) together with the Governance Planning Team of HfL have decided that the conference planned for Saturday 7th November 2020 will be postponed until Spring 2021.
The continuing uncertainty surrounding the development of the Covid-19 pandemic and the probable inadvisability of a meeting of up to 300 delegates in November this year has led us to decide now that, in the interests of safety for all participants, there was no alternative to this postponement.
Changes are likely to be coming
The way that we work as School Governors and, indeed, the way in which education will be delivered in the future will be subject to much discussion and change over the coming months. We believe that planning for a Spring Conference, when, hopefully,
- we will be able to group together again, and
- when the future pattern of both Secondary and Primary education is clearer,
… is the prudent approach.
Outstanding Governor nominations carried over to 2021
The HASG Executive Committee has also decided to cancel the 2020 Outstanding School Governor Awards. These would, normally, be presented during the November Conference. Any nominations already received for this year’s awards will be carried over to 2021. Given:
- the uncertainties at schools over the next two months, and
- the difficulties that school’s may be presented with for a September 2020 start-up,
… we do not feel it possible to carry out the assessments necessary for the awards until next year.
Keep up to date
Unfortunately, these postponements mean we will lose the most important communication vehicles for Governors at a time when communication is so vital. We ask all governors to access the web sites of HfL (www.hertsforlearning.co.uk), HASG (www.hertsgovernors.org) and Governor Hub to keep updated during this period.
A rescheduled date will be announced shortly.
