Skills Analysis and Governor Role Description
Research has shown that governing bodies which are most likely to be successful when recruiting new governors have a clear idea of their skills and the skills they are looking for when vacancies arise in governor positions which the Governing Body appoint. The greater the clarity of skills needed, the easier it is to show the contribution which a new governor can make.
The National Governors Association Skills Analysis is a good starting point and it is included in the appendices at the end of this booklet. Governing bodies are encouraged to adapt it to their own needs.
The NGA has also issued a ‘Job Role’ for governors which can also help demonstrate the role to interested candidates and the expectations of the governing body. It is available on the NGA website governing bodies are encouraged to adapt it to their own needs.
